7 Eco-Friendly Packing Tips That Actually Work

A Greener Move Is a Better Move

The average household move generates 60+ pounds of cardboard waste — most of it used once and tossed. Here's how to do better without spending more.

1. Rent Reusable Totes

The single biggest win. Our 27-gallon totes hold more than a standard moving box, stack perfectly, and we take them back when you're done.

2. Use What You Already Own

Suitcases, duffel bags, laundry hampers, and even dresser drawers can move fully packed. Why buy more containers when yours are already empty?

3. Wrap Dishes in Linens

Skip the bubble wrap. Towels, sheets, and t-shirts protect plates just as well — and you'd be moving them anyway.

4. Say No to Single-Use Tape

Reusable totes have built-in lids. No tape gun, no sticky residue on your hands, no peeling cardboard for an hour after the move.

5. Donate Before You Pack

Every item you don't move is one less item to wrap, lift, and unpack. ARC Thrift and Habitat ReStore both do free pickups in Northern Colorado.

6. Pack a Smart "First Night" Tote

One clearly-labeled tote with sheets, toiletries, phone chargers, and coffee. Future-you will be very grateful.

7. Schedule Pickup the Day You Unpack

Don't let empty totes pile up in the new garage. Book the return for the day you're done — we'll be there.
